Planetarium closes out its 2023/2024 series in the private loft in Ridgewood. There's a beautiful hi-fi system in the space, and there are plentiful vibes. Bring blankets, sleeping bags, pillows or anything else you'd like to make yourself comfortable. We do a small amount of reservations so that there's room for folks to lie down. For tonight's edition, Justin Carter is joined by Rena Anakwe. Justin will share a practice of playing full sides of albums, allowing for silence between songs and records, letting each piece of music create its own scene in the mind. For the occasion, he'll be setting up one of his EMT 930s. The EMT 930 is a German turntable that was built for radio broadcast starting in the 1950s, and a lot of folks think it's one of the best turntables – and one of the best ways to hear music – ever. Rena will hold a sound bath at the peak of the session, using traditional vibrational instruments combined with modern electronic equipment. Rena's practice also involves scent, activating the olfactory in ways that heighten the sonic experience.
